A Symphony of Calming Scents
Elara rushes back to her workshop. She gathers calming lavender, soothing chamomile, and grounding sandalwood, concocting a gentle balm to soothe frayed nerves.
Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs like a frantic bird trapped in a cage. The image of Liam’s bewildered, selfish gaze, the sharp words that had sliced through the usual warmth of their home – it all replayed in her mind, a cruel echo of her own creation. Her hands trembled as she slammed the workshop door shut behind her, the familiar scent of rose petals and citrus suddenly feeling suffocating. Guilt, a heavy cloak, settled over her shoulders. She had wanted to bottle bravery, to give people a whisper of courage when they needed it most. But she had created a monster, a selfish, reckless beast that had devoured her brother’s kindness.
“Pip,” she whispered, her voice thick with unshed tears. The little ferret, who had been perched on her shoulder, nudged her cheek with his wet nose. His bright, intelligent eyes seemed to understand her distress. He chittered softly, a comforting sound in the overwhelming silence of the workshop.
“It’s my fault, Pip,” Elara confessed, sinking onto her stool by the workbench. Bottles of various shapes and sizes gleamed in the soft lamplight, each holding a captured emotion, a distilled feeling. “I made it too strong. I didn’t think… I didn’t think it could be used like this.”
