The Dark Room
Unbeknownst to the others, Liam is the one who orchestrated Sophie's abduction. He has hidden her away in a dark, secluded room, his true, sinister nature now revealed to the reader.
The sudden, jarring silence was more terrifying than any scream. Sophie’s cry, cut short, echoed in the minds of her friends, a phantom limb of sound that left an aching void. The figure in the black suit had vanished as swiftly as it had appeared, a shadow swallowed by the looming trees and the indifferent, gray sky. Panic, a wild, untamed beast, clawed at their throats. Tom, his face pale and etched with a fear he tried desperately to mask, was the first to break the paralysis.
"Sophie!" he yelled, his voice cracking. He scrambled to his feet, his eyes darting wildly, searching for any trace of the dark-suited stranger or their missing friend. Mia, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, stumbled after him, her gaze fixed on the spot where Sophie had been. Leah whimpered, clutching James’s arm so tightly her knuckles were white. James, usually so steadfast, looked utterly bewildered, his athletic frame rigid with shock.
"We have to follow!" Tom urged, pointing towards the dense woods where the figure had disappeared. "He went that way!"
