The Vanishing Act

In a swift, startling move, the figure in black kidnaps Sophie. The remaining children cry out in shock and fear, immediately giving chase, determined to rescue their friend from the unknown captor.

The world tilted. One moment, Sophie was scrambling up the rocky incline, her breath coming in ragged gasps, the next she was falling. A wild, terrifying plummet that stole the air from her lungs and sent a jolt of pure panic through her. But instead of hitting the unforgiving stone, strong arms caught her. Arms that felt unnaturally firm, encased in something smooth and dark. Before she could even register the strangeness of it, she was being lifted, pulled away from the path. A figure, tall and shrouded in a suit as black as midnight, moved with a speed that defied the treacherous terrain.

“Sophie!” Mia’s scream ripped through the mountain air, sharp and full of terror.

The others followed, their shouts a chorus of disbelief and desperation. Tom stumbled, his face a mask of horror. Leah let out a strangled cry, her hands flying to her mouth. James, usually so steady, looked utterly bewildered.
