Chapter 7
Glitter Bomb!
Andy grabs a jar of glitter and hurls it at Pinky. The cartoon character shrieks, momentarily blinded and sputtering. Snakey tries to hiss a warning, but Andy uses the distraction to scramble behind her desk.
Andy’s heart hammered against her ribs like a frantic woodpecker. Pinky, that cheerful pink square with the impossibly big eyes, was now a terrifying, giggling menace, her smile stretching impossibly wide. Snakey, usually so slithery and smooth, was coiled like a spring, his forked tongue flicking out with an almost hungry intensity. Her bed, a sanctuary for sleep, seemed to beckon with the promise of a quick, but likely futile, hiding spot. And the TV… oh, the TV. It was the source of all this madness, its screen now a gaping maw that had disgorged these two nightmares into her reality.
Pinky took a wobbly step forward, her square body swaying. “Alone?” she chirped, her voice no longer the sweet, bubbly sound Andy knew and loved, but something sharper, laced with a sinister glee. “Oh, Andy, you’re never alone now!”
