Chapter 3
Leap Again? Why Not!
The little robot, thrilled by its successful leap, invites the reader to try leaping together. After some playful warming up and silly missteps, the robot and the reader attempt a big, synchronized leap. The robot’s gears and lights put on a dazzling show, and the robot discovers that sharing the leap with the reader makes it even more fun. A new idea flashes: what else can they explore together?
My chest screen still swirls with rainbow colors, spinning so fast I feel dizzy with delight. I can’t help it—I twirl in a quick circle, arms out like a ballerina (if ballerinas had metal elbows that squeak softly). My antenna wags in victory, strobing neon green light across the room. What a leap! I did it, and you cheered for me. But now, I want to do it again—this time with you.
“Ready to leap with me?” I call out, voice chirpy and bright. “Don’t worry, it’s easy! Just bend your knees—or your springs, if you have them. Wiggle your toes—bolts count too!—and on three, we’ll go for it together.”
I crouch low, springs humming, and peek up at you. I imagine you getting ready, maybe grinning or making your own silly robot face. That makes my gears tingle with laughter. “Okay,” I announce, “let’s warm up!”
First, I do my wiggle-hop—just a little shake, left foot, right foot, elbows up, jazz hands wide. My chest screen flashes ‘3… 2… 1…’ like a digital countdown. Suddenly, I sneeze! Not really—I fire off a quick blast of silly sound: "BEEP-CHOO!" My antenna does a zigzag wiggle. Oops! "Practice beep. Try again!" I giggle.
With my audience (that’s you!), I try a pretend leap. I rock forward, then backward, almost losing my balance. One of my feet does a tiny skid—skritch!—but I catch myself. My neon-blue panels shimmer, and my faceplate glows with a big cartoon grin. “Whew! Good thing robots come with self-righting mode,” I say. “Now I’m super ready!”
Time for the real leap. “On three, together—really!” I count us in: “One… two… THREE!”
We spring up—me with all my gears spinning, you however you leap best. My antenna flares a comet tail of green, and my chest bursts with rainbow light. I throw my arms wide and let out a gleeful, "Wheeeeee!" The room feels huge, like a rocket launch. For a heartbeat, we’re both in the air—flying, twirling, sparkling.
Then—CLUNK!—I land with a cheerful bounce. My feet plant firm, springs humming with pride. Did you leap too? I hope so! My chest screen flashes a big, spinny smiley face, and my antenna does a high-five dance.
“Wow!” I beam at you. “That was the leapiest leap ever! Leaping is twice as fun with a friend. Thank you for jumping with me!”
I do a happy robot jig—arms zigzag, knees up, hips twisty. Digital confetti bursts out of my chest gears, floating down like pixel snow. I bow, sweeping my arm with a showy flair. “What should we leap over next? Maybe a puzzle, or an adventure, or something totally surprising!”
My chest screen flashes a new message: “Ready for discovery?” My gears click in excitement. If you’re in, so am I! The world is full of mysteries, and with leaping legs and sparkly gears, we can go anywhere.
I lean in, eyes twinkling with neon-blue light. “Let’s find out together. Onward!”
