The great hall of SkyBound Academy was a cavern of hushed anticipation. Sunlight, fractured by the stained-glass windows depicting majestic wyverns in flight, painted kaleidoscopic patterns across the worn stone floor. Kaida stood at the forefront, her heart a frantic hummingbird against her ribs. Beside her, Zayden’s gaze, usually sharp with competition, held a flicker of concern. They had been summoned by Master Eldrin, a decree that sent ripples of unease through the student body. Whispers, like the rustling of unseen wings, followed them as they walked.

Master Eldrin stood before the assembled students, his silver hair catching the light, his face a roadmap of wisdom and untold stories.
