The air in the Whisperwood grew heavy, thick with the scent of damp earth and the ancient, unyielding secrets of the forest. Moonlight, usually a gentle caress, seemed to have sharpened into slivers, spearing through the dense canopy of emerald leaves and casting long, dancing shadows that played tricks on the eyes. Kaida, her heart a frantic drumbeat against her ribs, pushed aside a curtain of dew-kissed ferns, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Behind her, the soft thud of Zayden’s boots on the mossy ground was a constant, reassuring presence, a counterpoint to the rustling whispers of the trees that seemed to murmur warnings.

“Are you sure this is the right way?” Zayden’s voice, usually so steady, held a tremor of uncertainty. He was no stranger to the wilderness surrounding SkyBound Academy, but this deep, this far from the familiar paths, felt different. The very air seemed to hum with an unseen energy, a power that prickled at the skin and set the hairs on the back of Kaida’s neck on end.

Kaida nodded, her gaze fixed on the faint, shimmering trail of moon-dust that only she could see. It pulsed with a soft, ethereal glow, leading them deeper into the heart of the wood. “The Lunar Wyvern’s trail,” she whispered, her voice barely audible above the sighing wind. “It’s still here. Faint, but it’s here. We’re going the right way.”
