Chapter 11
The Legend of the Lunar Wyvern
They discover the legend of the Lunar Wyvern, a creature of immense power tied to the moon's cycles. It is said to hold the key to understanding all wyvern magic, including Kaida’s.
The biting wind whipped Kaida’s hair across her face, each gust a cold reminder of the lofty heights they’d ascended. Below, the jagged peaks of the Wild Peaks sprawled like a slumbering dragon, their snow-capped summits glinting under a sky that was beginning to bleed into twilight. She and Zayden had pushed their training to its limits, venturing further than they ever had before, fueled by a shared, unspoken urgency. The Eclipse Trial loomed, a shadow that cast a long, ominous chill over their every waking moment.
“Another dead end,” Zayden grumbled, pulling his cloak tighter around himself. His voice, usually laced with a competitive spark, was tinged with weariness. They had been following a faint trail of ancient symbols, etched into rock faces and hidden within the gnarl of windswept pines, symbols that Kaida felt resonated with something deep within her, a hum that vibrated in her bones. They spoke of forgotten paths, of guardians who walked in twilight, and of a magic that predated the very academy they called home.
Kaida traced a weathered carving on a boulder, her fingers brushing over the cool, unyielding stone. It depicted a winged creature, but unlike the sleek, powerful forms of the wyverns they knew, this one was more ethereal, its wings feathered like an owl’s, its eyes large and luminous, reflecting a faint, silvery light. “It’s not a dead end, Zayden,” she said softly, her gaze fixed on the carving. “It’s a transition. Look.” She pointed to the series of symbols that followed the creature. “These are older. Much older than the glyphs we found near the academy.”
