The hum of the city was a familiar lullaby to Anya, a constant thrum of progress that masked the deeper, more discordant notes of inequality. Outside her cramped apartment window, the gleaming spires of VanceCorp headquarters pierced the perpetual twilight of Neo-London, a stark reminder of the power that held the city in its gilded fist. Inside, however, a different kind of power was stirring, a whisper that threatened to grow into a roar.
Elias Thorne, his face a roadmap of a life lived in the trenches of forgotten movements, sat across from her, his gaze fixed on the holographic projector humming softly on the table. The air crackled with the unspoken weight of history, of voices long silenced, and the urgent need to resurrect them. He had been hesitant, his caution a thick cloak woven from years of disappointment and the bitter taste of compromise. But Anya’s fire, her unyielding belief in the radical clarity of Angela Davis's words, had chipped away at his cynicism.
“You’re playing with fire, Anya,” Elias murmured, his voice a low rumble. He gestured to the projected text, a passage from Davis’s unreleased manuscript, its words sharp and defiant. “VanceCorp doesn't tolerate sparks. They douse them with everything they have.”
