Chapter 17
Lena's Choice
Witnessing the movement’s impact and Anya's courage, Lena decides to lend her practical skills. She begins to translate revolutionary ideals into tangible action.
The air in Lena Petrova’s small apartment, usually thick with the scent of stale coffee and the hum of an aging data-pad, felt strangely charged. Outside, the city of Neo-Veridia pulsed with a restless energy, a symphony of drones and distant sirens that had become the soundtrack to their lives. But tonight, the usual thrum felt different, amplified by something she couldn’t quite name. Lena had watched it all unfold on the flickering screens, her usual cynicism warring with a grudging admiration. The sheer audacity of it, the peaceful tidal wave of humanity washing over the sterile plazas, demanding to be seen, to be heard. Her own loss. The memory of her brother, a bright spark extinguished by the indifferent machinery of the system, still burned. It was that fire that had driven her towards practicality, towards the tangible, the solvable. Grand movements, with their sweeping promises and often-elusive outcomes, had always struck her as naive, destined to crash against the immovable walls of power. But the March… the March had been different. It had been a physical manifestation of the words she’d seen Anya painstakingly unearth, words that hummed with a dangerous, beautiful power.
