Wila confronts Jaque about J7's claim that he was the one who messaged her first on Trektime. Jaque's inability to recall the exact wording of his first message deepens her doubt. Cynthia reveals that J7 is actually the original Jaque Deeds, and the man beside her is a clone who believes he is the original because his memories were implanted. The revelation shatters Wila's trust, and she demands proof. J7 sends a video call, confirming his identity by reciting the exact first message. Wila is left torn as Jaque struggles with his own shattered sense of self.
The car hummed over asphalt, the tires chewing through gravel as the road curved deeper into the pines. Wila's phone glowed in her lap, the text from J7 burning a hole in her thoughts. She read it again, her thumb hovering over the screen.
"He's not the one who messaged you first. I did. He stole my identity. Come find me, and I'll prove it. —J7"
She looked up at the rearview mirror. Jaque's eyes met hers for a fraction of a second before he looked back at the road.
