In the car, Jaque begins to explain the truth about the clones, revealing a secret project and his own uncertainty about his origins. Wila struggles to process the revelation as they arrive at a safe house. An intruder threatens their fragile trust, and Wila is forced to make a choice that leads to a dangerous confrontation.
The car hummed through the dark streets, headlights cutting through the fog that had rolled in from the bay. Wila sat rigid, her hands clenched in her lap, watching the city slide past. Beside her, Jaque drove with one hand on the wheel, the other still holding hers. His grip was warm, but she couldn't tell if it was comfort or control.
"Start talking," she said.
He took a breath. Let it out slow. "I don't know where to begin."
