Pixie Pandemonium at School

The quiet hum of the classroom, usually a gentle lullaby for Lily, was shattered by a sound like tiny bells chattering with glee. Lily, hunched over her math worksheet, felt a tickle on her nose. She swatted at it, thinking it was a stray eyelash. But then, a cascade of giggles, like a wind chime caught in a playful gust, erupted from her backpack. Pip, who had been snoozing under her desk, lifted his head, his ears perked. His tail gave a tentative thump-thump against the linoleum.

"What's that funny noise, Lily?" Pip whispered, his voice a soft rumble in her ear.

The mischievous pixie, no bigger than her thumb, was perched on the edge of the magical notebook, its iridescent wings a blur of emerald and sapphire. It had escaped the page. Its eyes, the color of dewdrops, sparkled with pure, unadulterated mischief.
