A Whispered Wish Fulfilled
Lily draws a tiny, enchanted music box that plays a melody only she and Pip can hear, a shared secret and a symbol of their unique friendship.
The midday sun, usually a cheerful splash of yellow across Lily’s bedroom floor, felt a little muted today. It was a quiet kind of day, the kind that settled into the corners of rooms and whispered secrets only the dust bunnies understood. Lily, curled up on her favorite armchair with Pip snoozing at her feet, felt that quiet settle right over her. Pip’s soft snores were a comforting rhythm, a gentle counterpoint to the hush. She’d spent the morning finishing a drawing of a magnificent castle, complete with tiny flags and a dragon perched precariously on a turret. It had been fun, but it had also felt… solitary. Even with Pip there, the magic was a one-sided affair, a show put on by her imagination for an audience of one (and one very happy puppy).
She sighed, a small puff of air that barely disturbed the stillness. She loved Pip, she really did. He was the bestest, most loyal, most waggy-tailed friend a shy girl could ever wish for. But sometimes, just sometimes, she wished for something more. Something that wasn’t just about making things *for* her, but something that could be shared, a secret just between them. She traced the worn cover of her magical notebook with a fingertip. It was still full of wonder, but a different kind of wonder was beginning to bloom in her heart.
“Pip,” she whispered, nudging his soft flank with her foot. He stirred, a low rumble in his chest, and then his head shot up, his tail giving a tentative thump-thump against the rug. His big, brown eyes blinked sleepily at her. “You awake?”
