Lily’s heart did a little flip-flop, the kind that usually happened when she was about to spill her juice or forget her homework. But this was different. This was the school’s annual art fair, a whirlwind of glitter glue, oddly shaped clay sculptures, and the distinct aroma of lukewarm paint. This year, instead of hiding behind a potted plant, Lily was supposed to… well, *participate*. With her notebook.
Pip, vibrating with excitement at her side, nudged her hand with his wet nose. “You’ve got this, Lily-pad!” he barked, his tail thumping a frantic rhythm against the gymnasium floor. “Just think happy thoughts and draw them!”
Lily clutched the worn cover of her notebook, its blank pages a silent testament to Pip’s creation and the pixie’s brief, chaotic reign. She’d spent the last week practicing, drawing little flowers that bloomed for a few minutes before wilting, or tiny birds that sang a single, sweet note before dissolving into shimmering dust. Pip, of course, was a permanent fixture, a warm, furry anchor in her sometimes-wobbly world.
