A Rainbow on a Rainy Day

When the weather is gloomy, Lily draws a brilliant, temporary rainbow arching over her town, bringing smiles to everyone's faces.

The sky, usually a cheerful cerulean canvas dotted with fluffy white clouds, had decided to don a rather glum, grey cloak. Fat raindrops splattered against Lily’s bedroom window, each one looking like a tiny, tearful eye. Pip, who usually bounced with enough energy to power a small city, was curled up on the rug, his tail giving only the most desultory of thumps.

“It’s just so… drippy, Lily,” he sighed, his voice a little muffled by his paws. “My tail feels all droopy. And my nose isn’t getting any fresh, sniffable air.”

Lily, who had been sketching a rather gloomy-looking cloud with a frown etched onto its paper face, looked up. She knew exactly what Pip meant. Even her usually vibrant crayons seemed a bit subdued by the relentless drizzle. The world outside her window looked like a watercolour painting that had been left out in a downpour.
