Chapter 9
Stars and Scars
Dawn breaks not with a new queen, but a unified council. Briarhollow remains haunted, its scars a testament to survival. The stars knew the forest had always been learning to heal.
The first blush of dawn painted the sky in hues of rose and lavender, a gentle awakening after a night that had held both terror and revelation. Briarhollow, once a kingdom fractured by fear and forgotten memories, stirred. The air, still thick with the lingering scent of burned secrets and the sweet perfume of blossoms, carried a new kind of quiet. It wasn't the suffocating silence of emptiness, but the peaceful hush of understanding.
Rowan stood at the edge of the Mirror Garden, her thorn-forged armor glinting faintly in the nascent light. Her sword, usually a cold extension of her will, felt lighter, its purpose no longer a solitary burden. Beside her, Bramble’s fiery wings, though still smoldering with residual intensity, settled into a softer glow. The endless wildfire within her had finally found a hearth. Wren, her rag doll clutched tightly, no longer flinched at every rustle of leaves. Her wide, curious eyes, once filled with the shadows of imagined monsters, now reflected the dawn’s promise.
Elara, her form shimmering like distant constellations, drifted closer, her gaze fixed on the sky. "The stars remember," she whispered, her voice like the gentle chime of celestial bells. "They always knew."
