The air in the throne room crackled with a tension so thick I could have sliced it with my ceremonial butter knife. My father sat on his throne, his usual stern expression now etched with a bewildered frustration that mirrored my own. Noah, Liam, and Mark stood before him, their faces carefully blank, a united front of practiced obedience. Except, of course, when they looked at me. Then, their eyes glinted with that possessive fire, a silent promise that the chaos of the last few weeks was far from over.

“Explain yourselves,” my father’s voice boomed, the sound echoing off the tapestries depicting ancient battles and stern-faced ancestors. He gestured vaguely at the three men, then at me, my heart doing a frantic tap-dance against my ribs. “This… this entire situation. Rabi is distressed. Her dresses are… unsuitable. And your behavior is… overzealous, even for you lot.”

Liam, ever the charmer, took a step forward, his smile a little too bright. “Your Majesty, we are merely ensuring the Princess’s comfort and safety. As you know, her beauty is unparalleled, and the world outside these walls can be… harsh.” He winked at me, a gesture that would have been charming if it hadn’t made my stomach churn with a mixture of dread and a bizarre, unwelcome flutter.
