Chapter 2

The Unsettling "Honeymoon"

Rabi navigates her new reality, with Noah, Liam, and Mark exhibiting unnervingly possessive behavior. Their subservient facade before her father is almost convincing, but their true intentions simmer.

The silk of the bedsheets felt alien beneath me, cool and smooth, a stark contrast to the clammy sweat that coated my skin. Eighteen. The number itself felt like a cruel joke. Eighteen years of blissful ignorance, shattered by a single, booming declaration from my father. Married. To Noah, my stoic bodyguard. To Liam, my childhood companion whose teasing grip had always held a hint of something more. To Mark, the quiet, efficient butler who moved through the palace like a shadow. Married. To three men. My stomach churned.

The days that followed were a blur of forced smiles and a gnawing anxiety that settled deep in my bones. My father, bless his oblivious heart, seemed thrilled with his… arrangements. He’d beam at me across the breakfast table, a proud father whose daughter was so well-provided for. Provided for. The word tasted like ash in my mouth.

Noah, Liam, and Mark were a constant, unsettling presence. When Father was around, they were the picture of perfect servitude. Noah, usually a statue of vigilance, would bow his head so low his dark hair brushed the polished marble. Liam, whose usual boisterous laughter was often directed at my expense, would adopt a demure silence, his gaze fixed somewhere on the floor near my slippered feet. Mark, ever the professional, would simply stand a respectful distance away, his hands clasped behind his back, his expression as impassive as a carved gargoyle.

“Your Highness requires anything?” Noah’s voice, when he spoke in Father’s presence, was a low rumble, devoid of the possessiveness that had begun to prickle at my awareness in the quiet moments.

“A fresh goblet of water, perhaps?” Liam might venture, his tone laced with a carefully crafted deference that felt like a poorly applied veneer.

“Your comfort is our utmost concern, Princess,” Mark would add, his words clipped and precise, as if reciting from a manual on royal etiquette.

And Father would nod, pleased. “Excellent. Such devotion. You are all exemplary.” Exemplary. If only he knew.

The unsettling part wasn’t just their sudden, overwhelming attentiveness when Father was near. It was the way their eyes lingered, even when they were supposed to be looking away. It was the subtle shift in the air when they were alone with me. The palpable tension that coiled in the corners of my chambers.

When Father retired for the evening, the masks began to slip. The polished marble floors of the palace hallways, once familiar and comforting, now felt like a treacherous path. Every shadow seemed to deepen, every creak of the ancient wood a harbinger of their approach.

One evening, after a particularly strained dinner where Liam had almost choked on a grape trying to suppress a laugh at one of my father’s anecdotes, I found myself alone in my sitting room. The heavy velvet curtains were drawn, and a single lamp cast a warm, flickering glow. I was trying to lose myself in a book, the familiar weight of it usually a balm, but the words swam before my eyes.

A soft rap echoed through the silence. My heart leaped into my throat. I knew who it was. Of course I did. They were always there.

“Enter,” I managed, my voice a breathy whisper.

The door swung open, and Noah stood silhouetted against the dim light of the corridor. He was followed by Liam, a shadow of his usual self, his playful grin replaced by a more… intense expression. Mark was last, his presence a silent, foreboding weight.

Noah closed the door with a soft click that sounded deafening in the sudden quiet. He didn’t bow. He didn’t speak. He simply walked towards me, his gaze fixed on my face. There was a possessiveness in those dark eyes that made my breath hitch. It wasn't the possessiveness of a guard protecting his charge; it was something far more intimate, far more… consuming.

“Princess,” he said, his voice low, rougher than usual. He stopped a few feet away, his broad shoulders filling the space between us.

Liam appeared at my side, his hand reaching out, not to touch, but to hover inches from my arm. His usual teasing spark was gone, replaced by a simmering intensity that made my skin prickle. “You seemed… distracted tonight, Rabi.”

Distracted hardly covered it. I felt like a tightly wound spring, ready to snap. “I… I was just tired,” I stammered, my gaze flicking between the three of them.

Mark stepped forward, his movements precise. He picked up a stray thread from the rug, examining it with meticulous care. “Your Highness’s comfort is paramount. If anything is amiss, you must tell us.” His voice was calm, even, but there was an undertone of something else, something that hinted at a coiled power beneath the placid surface.

“Nothing is amiss,” I said, a little too quickly. “Everything is… fine.”

Liam chuckled, a low, breathy sound that did nothing to ease my nerves. “Fine? Is that truly how you feel, little bird?” He finally let his fingers brush against my sleeve, a feather-light touch that sent a shiver down my spine. It wasn't the innocent touch of a childhood friend. It was a claim. A whisper of ownership.

Noah’s jaw tightened. “Liam.” The single word was a warning, sharp and possessive.

Liam’s eyes flickered to Noah, a flicker of something akin to defiance, quickly masked. He withdrew his hand, but his gaze remained locked on me, a silent question in their depths.

I wanted to scream. I wanted to demand answers. I wanted to run. But the words caught in my throat, thick and heavy. They were my husbands. My protectors. My jailers.

“I… I think I need some rest,” I managed, my voice trembling slightly.

Noah took a step closer. He reached out, his fingers tracing the curve of my jaw. His touch was surprisingly gentle, yet it held an undeniable strength. “Rest, Princess,” he murmured, his thumb brushing against my lower lip. “We will ensure you have it.”

My heart hammered against my ribs. Ensure I had it? What did that even mean?

Liam’s hand found mine, his fingers intertwining with my own. His grip was firm, almost crushing. “And we will be here,” he added, his voice a low purr. “Always.”

Mark, meanwhile, was adjusting a cushion on the sofa, his movements deliberate. He glanced at me, his eyes meeting mine for a fleeting moment. There was no warmth there, only a cool assessment. “Your rest is our priority, Princess.”

The air in the room felt thick, charged with unspoken desires and a suffocating sense of control. They were all looking at me, their gazes a tangible force, pinning me in place. I felt like a specimen under a microscope, every breath, every heartbeat, scrutinized and cataloged.

I wanted to tell them to leave. I wanted to tell them to stop. But the fear, a cold, creeping dread, held me captive. Fear of their reactions. Fear of what they might do. Fear of myself, and the strange, unsettling flutter that stirred in my chest at their possessive intensity.

Noah’s hand cupped my cheek, his thumb stroking my skin. His gaze was unwavering, a dark pool that seemed to draw me in. “You are ours, Rabi,” he stated, not as a question, but as a simple, irrefutable fact.

Liam squeezed my hand. “And we will never let anyone else have you.”

Mark, from his position by the sofa, gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. “Your safety is assured.”

Assured. The word felt hollow, a mockery of my current state. I was trapped. Not by walls of stone, but by the suffocating devotion of these three men. They were my husbands, and their “protection” felt more like ownership, their attentiveness a prelude to something I couldn’t yet fathom. As they stood there, their combined presence a powerful force in the quiet room, I knew one thing for certain: my life had irrevocably changed, and the honeymoon phase, whatever that was supposed to entail, was going to be anything but peaceful. It was going to be a constant, nerve-wracking dance on the edge of their possessive gaze. And I had a terrifying suspicion that I was already losing.
