The hum that had thrummed through Aris’s very bones, the insistent, vibrating pulse of the universe caught in a cosmic fever dream, began to recede. It wasn't an abrupt silence, but a slow, gentle exhale, like a giant celestial lung releasing its breath. The blinding light that had enveloped his study, a kaleidoscope of impossible colors and geometries, softened, coalescing back into the familiar, albeit now strangely muted, hues of his bookshelves and the worn leather of his armchair. He blinked, his eyes adjusting, feeling a profound stillness settle over him, a quietude that was both a relief and, in its own way, unnerving.

He looked around, searching for any outward sign of the cataclysm he had believed was imminent, the world-shattering event he had fought so desperately to avert. There was none. The city lights still twinkled outside his window, the distant drone of traffic a familiar lullaby. Nothing seemed to have changed, and yet, everything felt… different.
