The blinding light that had enveloped his study, a kaleidoscope of impossible colors and geometries, softened, coalescing back into the familiar, albeit now strangely muted, hues of his bookshelves and the worn leather of his armchair. He was still seated at his desk, the familiar weight of the cooled coffee mug in his hand. The air in the room tasted different, cleaner, imbued with a faint, sweet scent he couldn't quite place – like ozone after a distant storm, or the first breath of spring on a mountaintop.
