Melody Returned
With the Lullaby safely retrieved, Pippa rushes back to the castle. The magical tune is played, and a wave of peaceful sleep washes over the kingdom, much to King Bartholomew's immense relief.
Princess Pippa, clutching the shimmering, ethereal melody of the Lullaby like a particularly precious jigsaw piece, practically flew down the winding path from the Sleep Sprite's mossy hollow. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat of urgency and exhilaration. Behind her, the faint, bewildered chirps of snoring butterflies still echoed, a testament to the wonderfully bizarre symphony of slumber she’d just witnessed. But the Lullaby, oh, the Lullaby! It pulsed in her hands, a gentle, humming warmth that promised an end to the kingdom’s collective wakefulness.
She could already picture it: King Bartholomew, his royal brow furrowed into a magnificent landscape of sleep-deprived wrinkles, finally able to close his eyes without the nagging worry of a sleepless populace. The thought made Pippa smile, a wide, genuine grin that crinkled the corners of her eyes. She’d done it. She’d navigated tickle-feather mazes and navigated rivers of bathwater, she’d deciphered riddles that would make a seasoned cryptographer weep, and she’d even managed to strike a bargain with a creature whose primary currency was, apparently, shiny things and musical snorts.
As she burst through the castle gates, the guards, who had been looking distinctly bleary-eyed and were probably contemplating the merits of napping on duty, blinked in surprise. “Princess!” one of them stammered, nearly dropping his halberd.
