The CEO stood before me, not with the menacing glare I’d braced myself for, but with a strange, almost wistful expression. The cacophony of the expo floor seemed to recede, leaving only the hum of our shared space. "You know, Alex," he began, his voice surprisingly soft, "I’ve built MegaCorp on a foundation of… efficiency. Of maximizing every possible return. It’s how we became the giant we are." He gestured vaguely at the hushed crowd still buzzing about the Glow-Bot’s success. "But watching you today… seeing what this little bot means to people… it makes you question the model."
My heart hammered against my ribs. This wasn't the usual corporate jargon. This was… introspection. "The Glow-Bot is designed to help, sir," I managed, keeping my voice steady. "To make life a little easier, a little brighter, for everyone. That's always been the goal."
He nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on a shimmering Glow-Bot perched on a nearby pedestal, its soft light pulsing gently. "And you've done it. You've created something that resonates. Something that doesn't just offer a utility, but a connection. My initial offer… it was purely transactional. Acquire, integrate, absorb. Standard procedure. But you… you refused to let the Glow-Bot become just another product swallowed by the machine." He paused, a small smile playing on his lips. "And frankly, it was rather… inspiring."
