Chapter 12
MegaCorp's Observation
The CEO of MegaCorp, initially dismissive, witnesses the Glow-Bot's triumph. Impressed by Alex's ingenuity and market impact, a new calculation begins in the mind of the industry titan.
The roar of the crowd was a tidal wave, washing over me, carrying me on its crest. It wasn't just applause; it was a symphony of wonder, a chorus of "oohs" and "aahs" that vibrated through my very bones. My Glow-Bots, a hundred of them, danced and shimmered on their pedestals, each emitting its soft, warm light, a beacon of helpfulness in the bustling expo hall. They were more than just gadgets; they were promises, little emissaries of a brighter, easier future. And the people, the discerning, trend-setting crowd, they were seeing it. I remembered his offer, the cold, calculated number that had felt like a vise tightening around my dreams. "A generous sum," he'd called it. Generous for him, perhaps. But it would have meant the Glow-Bot would be priced out of reach for the very people I wanted to help. It would have been a gilded cage, a beautiful thing locked away. My gut had twisted, a sharp, unpleasant sensation of wrongness. I had refused. I had chosen the harder path, the one paved with sleepless nights and endless calculations, the path of defiance.
