Chapter 4
Flames Erupt!
Panic seizes the village as a mysterious fire breaks out, spreading with alarming speed. Homes are threatened, and fear grips the hearts of the villagers. Kito is frozen, his usual spirit replaced by terror.
The air, usually sweet with the scent of river water and blooming wildflowers, turned acrid and thick. Panic, a creature as swift and unpredictable as a startled bird, took flight through the village.
Shouts erupted, sharp and ragged, tearing through the afternoon quiet. "Fire! Fire!" The cry was taken up, passed from one breathless villager to another, each voice laced with a rising tide of fear. The familiar, cheerful roofs of their homes, usually bathed in the warm afternoon sun, were now silhouetted against a menacing inferno. Smoke, thick and black, choked the sky, turning the bright day into a murky twilight.
