The heat pressed in, a tangible blanket of smoke and fear. Kito stood at the edge of the inferno, his heart a frantic bird trapped in his chest. The village, his home, was being devoured. Flames, like greedy tongues, licked at thatched roofs, spitting embers into the night sky. He could hear the crackle and roar, a symphony of destruction that threatened to drown out everything else.
