The hushed tones of the limousine, once a vessel of mystery, now felt like a cage. As it glided through the familiar streets of my hometown, a knot of dread tightened in my stomach. Father’s words, "all I was to do was to focus on graduation day," echoed in my mind, a stark contrast to the whirlwind of questions swirling within me. The limousine finally stopped in front of a discreet, elegant house that wasn’t ours. The chauffeur opened the door, and I stepped out, my legs feeling like lead.

Inside, the air was thick with unspoken tension. My parents sat stiffly, their faces etched with a weariness I hadn’t seen before. Across from them, a man I recognized from the earlier encounter – the Prince’s spokesperson, his dark suit a stark contrast to the flowing robes he’d worn before – sat with an air of carefully controlled impatience. He was flanked by another man, older, with a stern face and eyes that seemed to miss nothing.

My father cleared his throat, his voice strained. "Emily," he began, his gaze meeting mine, a silent plea for understanding in his eyes. "There are… things we need to tell you. About your heritage. About why Prince Tariq is so interested in you."
