The silk of Tariq’s djellaba whispered against the antique rug as he entered the sun-drenched salon. Emily had chosen this room, its walls a pale, calming cream, for their final conversation. The air, usually alive with the scent of jasmine from the courtyard, felt heavy, pregnant with unspoken words. She sat by the tall arched window, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles were white.

He approached her slowly, his gaze, usually so full of a playful fire, now held a profound gentleness. "Emily," he began, his voice a low murmur, "you sent for me."

She nodded, unable to meet his eyes immediately. The weight of her decision pressed down on her, a physical ache in her chest. "Yes, Tariq. I… I have something to tell you."
