Marcus is driven to an unfamiliar office where Thompson presents the contract with new, harsher terms. As Marcus stalls, Lena escapes and alerts Coach Harris, who arrives to confront Thompson. In the chaos, Marcus sees an opening to run.
The car rumbled down the main road, the morning sun slanting through the tinted windows. Marcus sat in the back seat, his hands resting on his knees, his mind racing. Beside him, Thompson was silent, his phone in his hand, his thumb scrolling through messages. The driver, a heavyset man with a shaved head, kept his eyes on the road.
They drove for ten minutes, passing through the industrial district and into a part of town Marcus didn't recognize. The buildings grew older, the streets narrower. Finally, the car pulled into a gravel lot behind a two-story brick building with a faded sign that read "Thompson & Associates — Logistics."
"Out," Thompson said.
