Elias sat by the window, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across his worn Bible. He’d read the words again and again, seeking an answer, a sign, anything to break the persistent fog that clung to his spirit. Chapter 11 had spoken of battles, of spiritual warfare, and while he understood the concept of an adversary, he felt utterly ill-equipped to fight. His own internal struggles seemed far more formidable than any external foe. He felt adrift, a ship without a rudder, buffeted by waves of doubt and uncertainty. He’d tried to pray, to connect, but the silence felt vast, echoing only his own yearning.
Sarah found him there, her usual radiant smile softened with gentle concern. She’d learned to read the subtle cues of his searching soul. "Lost in thought, Elias?" she asked, her voice a warm melody that always managed to cut through his gloom.
He looked up, a flicker of a smile touching his lips. "Just… trying to navigate, Sarah. Chapter eleven felt so… active. Like I should be wielding a sword, but all I have is a dull butter knife."
