He’d read the testimonies, heard Sarah speak with such unshakeable conviction, yet the promised “power” felt elusive, like a rumour of rain in a parched land. He’d meditated, prayed, even tried to mimic the joyful abandon he saw in Sarah, but his spirit often felt like a locked room, the key just out of reach.
One afternoon, as a storm brewed outside, mirroring the tempest in his soul, Elias sat in his quiet study. He’d been poring over scripture, searching for answers, for a definitive command or a clear sign that would unlock the fullness he craved. “Lord,” he whispered, the words tasting like ash, “Am I doing this wrong? Is there some secret I’m missing?” He thought of Sarah, her radiant peace, her seemingly effortless faith. What was her secret?
Just then, Sarah’s phone buzzed. It was a text from her, a simple, “Thinking of you. Coffee soon?” Elias felt a flicker of annoyance, quickly followed by shame. He was projecting his own internal struggle onto her. He typed back, “Yes, please. I could use some of your wisdom.”
