The Jetpack Mishap

Spotting a jetpack, Anna tries to get it for a new plan. Mark shoves her, accidentally putting it on backward. The sensors activate, launching him skyward, crying and in distress.

Anna’s eyes, sharp and quick, landed on it. Just beyond the wreckage of General Stokes’ latest contraption, glinting in the afternoon sun, was a jetpack. A real, honest-to-goodness jetpack. Her mind, always buzzing with possibilities, immediately saw a solution. A way to reach Mark, to pull him back from his self-imposed isolation and his ridiculous bouncing.

“Look, Serina!” Anna exclaimed, pointing. “A jetpack! If I can just get that…”

She started to move, a determined glint in her eyes. But Mark, still vibrating with a furious energy that seemed to propel him up and down with the relentless rhythm of a jackhammer, was a human obstacle course. He was so engrossed in his own frantic bouncing, his face a mask of stubborn defiance, that he didn’t see her coming.
