The air in the interrogation room was thick with unspoken questions, a palpable tension that settled between Isabella and Sofia like a shroud. Outside, the pre-dawn sky bled into a bruised purple, mirroring the turmoil in Isabella’s gut. She’d spent hours poring over reports, sketching timelines, sifting through the suffocating layers of deceit that clung to the Pink Palace like expensive perfume. Yet, it always came back to Sofia. The woman sat across from her, a study in controlled grace, her dark eyes fixed on Isabella with an unnerving calm.

“You know something, Sofia,” Isabella stated, her voice low but firm. She leaned forward, her hands clasped on the polished table, a stark contrast to Sofia’s languid posture. “You know who killed Mr. Sterling. You know why.”

Sofia’s lips curved into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. It didn’t reach her eyes, which remained cool, assessing. “Detective Rossi, you are driven by a need for answers, aren’t you? A desire to neatly tie up loose ends.” Her voice was a silken whisper, each word carefully chosen, laced with an undertone Isabella couldn’t quite decipher. Was it amusement? Defiance? Or something far more dangerous?
