The air in Isabella’s office, usually thick with the scent of stale coffee and unspoken anxieties, now felt charged with a different kind of energy. It was the hum of a mind working at a furious pace, piecing together fragments that refused to fit neatly into the expected mosaic of a crime. The Sterling murder, the first in the string that had begun to unravel the gilded facade of the Pink Palace, was no longer a singular act of violence. And she has a way of… attracting attention.” Eleanor had paused, her gaze drifting to a distant point, as if recalling a particularly juicy piece of gossip. “Mr. Sterling, bless his soul, was no stranger to the finer things. And to… certain arrangements. He was a man who liked to be in control. It would be a shame if that control was taken from him.” The implication hung in the air, heavy and potent.
