The air grew thick, not with dust or the scent of old wood, but with something far more elusive. It was a melody, faint and fragmented, like a whisper carried on a breeze that wasn't there. Lily paused, her small hand hovering over the banister, her brow furrowed in concentration. The tune was familiar, achingly so, yet it danced just beyond her grasp, a phantom echo from a forgotten corner of her mind. It was a tune that made her stomach clench, a little like when she’d accidentally swallowed a too-sour berry.

"Do you hear it, little adventurer?" the owl's voice, a soft rustle of feathers and wisdom, broke the silence. He perched on a step a few feet above her, his large, golden eyes fixed on her face. "That is the song of a memory that longs to be remembered, yet fears being heard."

Lily nodded, her gaze drifting upwards, as if the melody itself was a shimmering thread leading her further into the dim, winding passage. The vibrant colors on the walls seemed to deepen, swirling with a more somber hue, like bruised plums and stormy skies. They pulsed with a gentle, rhythmic light, mirroring the hesitant beat of her own heart. "It feels… sad," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "And a little bit… prickly."
