The air on the staircase grew heavy, not with dust or age, but with a peculiar, shimmering sadness. Lily’s heart, which had been thrumming with a brave adventure, now felt like a little bird caught in a gust of wind. The creature of regret, a wispy thing of faded colors and crumpled edges, had dissolved like mist, leaving behind a quiet ache. She looked at the Wise Old Owl, perched on a step just ahead, his amber eyes steady and kind.

"It feels… heavy," Lily whispered, her voice barely a breath. "Like a rainy day inside my chest."

The Owl blinked slowly, a sign of deep thought. "Regret, little one, is often a heavy cloak. It is the weight of what might have been, or what was done without thought. But a cloak can be shed, can it not?"
