Chapter 9
April's Sabotage Attempt
Seeing Summer genuinely happy, April tries to ruin her reputation by sabotaging her art project, a crucial part of an upcoming school event.
April, perched on her self-made throne of popularity, watched Summer with the predatory intensity of a hawk eyeing a particularly plump field mouse. It wasn't just Summer’s newfound radiance that irked her – though that was certainly a factor, like a rogue glitter bomb detonated in April’s meticulously curated universe. No, it was the sheer, unadulterated *joy* radiating from Summer like a poorly aimed laser pointer. Summer, who used to flinch at shadows and mumbled apologies for existing, was now… *glowing*. The boy who looked like he’d wrestled a badger for breakfast and won. The boy whose voice rumbled like an approaching thunderstorm and whose laughter was as chaotic as a herd of stampeding unicorns. He, of all people, had managed to chip away at April’s carefully constructed social edifice by simply… *adoring* Summer.
This was unacceptable. This was a cosmic imbalance. This was an affront to the natural order of things, where April was the sun and everyone else, especially Summer, orbited her with a healthy dose of fear and subservience.
