A Date with Disaster

Alex asks Summer out, much to April's horror. Their 'date' is a series of comedic mishaps, from a runaway hot dog cart to an impromptu dance-off.

Summer’s heart did a frantic little tap dance against her ribs, a rhythm usually reserved for dodging flying textbooks or accidentally walking into a glass door. But this was different. This was Alex. Alex, who had the charisma of a rock star and the coordination of a newborn giraffe, was currently sporting a grin that could melt glaciers and asking *her* out.

“So, Summer,” he’d said, his voice a rumble that vibrated through her very bones, “this Saturday. You, me, maybe some questionable life choices and a whole lot of fun. Whaddya say?”

The words hung in the air, shimmering like a mirage in the desert of Summer’s usual social existence. Her mind, ever the overthinker, immediately conjured a montage of disastrous scenarios: tripping over her own feet and face-planting into his pizza, accidentally setting her hair on fire with a stray sparkler, or worse, April orchestrating a public humiliation so epic it would be studied in future sociology classes. But then she looked at Alex, his eyes sparkling with genuine excitement, and a tiny, rebellious voice whispered, *What if it’s… good?*
