April escalates her tactics, spreading rumors about Summer. Alex, however, sees through the lies, his loyalty to Summer only strengthening with each false accusation.

April, perched on her usual throne of social media likes and whispered gossip, surveyed her domain with the keen eye of a general planning a particularly nasty campaign. Summer, bless her perpetually flustered heart, was becoming an inconveniently bright spot in her otherwise meticulously curated world. It wasn't enough that April had tried to drown Summer in a fountain of lukewarm cafeteria soup (a valiant effort, if Summer hadn't been wearing a strategically placed, waterproof smock she’d painted herself, featuring a surprisingly accurate, albeit tiny, rendering of a grumpy badger). No, April needed to dismantle this budding Summer-Alex alliance brick by painstaking brick, or rather, rumor by insidious rumor.

The whispers began subtly, like a faint static on a perfectly tuned radio. It started with the art class. Mrs. Gable, a woman whose enthusiasm for pastels was as boundless as her tolerance for April’s dramatics, had praised Summer’s latest piece – a vibrant, abstract explosion of color that somehow managed to look like a happy unicorn tap-dancing on a rainbow.

“It just… *feels* so alive, Summer,” Mrs. Gable had crooned, her voice thick with admiration. “Such raw emotion!”
