The fluorescent lights of Northwood High hummed with a newfound, almost celebratory, energy. Summer, usually a creature of shadows and hushed apologies, walked with a spring in her step that felt as foreign as a unicorn prancing through a tax audit. He winked, a gesture so charmingly earnest it could melt glaciers.
