The rain had stopped, leaving the city slick and gleaming under the bruised twilight sky. I pulled the collar of my jacket tighter, the damp air clinging to me like a second skin. Evelyn’s directions, scribbled on a crumpled napkin, felt brittle in my pocket. “The old observatory on Blackwood Hill,” she’d said, her voice tight with a mixture of urgency and apprehension. “It’s a place Silas has always favored. He believes it holds… more than just star charts.”

More than star charts. The phrase echoed in my mind as I navigated the winding, overgrown path towards the hill. The air grew colder, the city lights fading behind me, replaced by the skeletal silhouettes of ancient trees. Blackwood Hill. The name itself seemed to carry a weight, a history I was only beginning to scratch the surface of. Silas Blackwood. The man who’d orchestrated so much of the danger I’d found myself in, the man whose greed fueled this entire chaotic chase. And the observatory, his sanctuary of secrets. I had a hunch, a gut feeling that this was where the heart of his operation, and perhaps the final piece of the treasure puzzle, lay hidden.

The observatory loomed ahead, a dark, imposing silhouette against the fading light. It was an architecturally peculiar building, a blend of Victorian grandeur and stark, functional design, as if someone had tried to fuse a gothic mansion with a fortress. Ivy clung to its stone walls like grasping fingers, and the domed roof, once gleaming, was now tarnished and streaked with age. A single, unbroken window, high up on the main tower, glinted like a watchful eye.
