The adrenaline coursed through me, a potent cocktail of fear and exhilaration, long after the screech of tires had faded and the alley had returned to its usual, grimy silence. My heart still hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs, a testament to how close I’d come to becoming another forgotten statistic. That was the thrill of it, wasn’t it?
