The dusty attic air, usually a place of forgotten memories and cobwebs, now buzzed with a strange energy. Elias, his fingers still faintly smelling of old paper and dried ink, sat on an overturned crate, the two rings resting on the open palm of his hand. The 'JESUS' ring, heavy and undeniable, felt like a judgment. The second ring, with its subtle, flowing pattern, felt like a question mark etched in metal. He turned them over and over, the afternoon sun slanting through the grimy window, illuminating the dust motes dancing like tiny, lost souls.

His father’s journals lay scattered around him, their pages filled with a familiar, yet alien, script. Arthur Thorne, the man of unwavering faith, the pillar of the community, had apparently led a life far more intricate than Elias had ever imagined. The entries weren’t just simple prayers or sermons; they were riddles, observations, and peculiar sketches that seemed to hint at a world beyond the stained-glass windows of the church.

One particular passage, underlined multiple times, kept drawing Elias’s attention. *“The river remembers, and the stones whisper secrets to those who listen. Where the water meets the earth, a new path begins.”* It was cryptic, frustratingly so. He’d reread it a dozen times, his brow furrowed in concentration. What river? What stones? And what new path?
