The polished boardroom table, a vast expanse of dark wood reflecting the subdued elegance of the room, felt like a battlefield. I sat at its edge, a nervous tremor in my fingers as I clutched my notepad, trying to project an air of calm I was far from feeling. Tafadzwa Nyathi, the man who had once reduced me to a fuming mess with a few carelessly flung words, sat at the head, his presence a solid, imposing force. He was all sharp angles and controlled power, his dark suit impeccable, his gaze sweeping over the agenda with an unnerving efficiency.

This was it. My chance. My opportunity to be more than just the “reckless” student he’d dismissed with a sneer two years ago. I was here to present my proposal for a new guest experience initiative, a project I’d poured myself into, fueled by a potent cocktail of ambition and a desperate need to prove him wrong.

“Ms. Makara,” Tafadzwa’s voice, a low rumble that still sent a shiver down my spine, cut through the hushed anticipation. “Your proposal. I trust you’ve prepared adequately.”
