The air in the boardroom was thick with the scent of polished mahogany and unspoken tension. I smoothed down the front of my crisp, borrowed blazer, the unfamiliar fabric a stark contrast to the worn denim I usually favoured. This was it. My first official meeting with the man himself, Tafadzwa Nyathi, owner of the sprawling empire that now, impossibly, dictated the trajectory of my nascent career. Two years. Two years since that humiliating encounter at Edgars, and here I was, on the precipice of his gilded world.

Mrs. Sibanda had prepped me for hours, her calm voice a steady anchor in the storm of my nerves. "Remember your brief, Joyce. Be concise. Be confident. And for heaven's sake, don't let him intimidate you." Easy for her to say. She’d navigated these waters for decades. I was a minnow, about to swim with sharks.

The door swung open, and he entered. Tafadzwa Nyathi. The hotel tycoon. Thirty years old, and already a titan. He was exactly as I remembered, yet entirely different. The arrogant swagger was still there, a predator’s coiled energy, but it was now underscored by an aura of immense power, a gravitas that silenced the room before he even spoke. His suit was immaculate, a dark charcoal that seemed to absorb the light, his tie a deep, rich crimson. He exuded an almost unnerving cleanliness, a crispness that spoke of meticulous control.
