Shadows of Rivalry
Mr. Chideme’s machinations intensify, threatening to exploit the hotel’s vulnerability. He becomes a tangible threat, forcing Joyce and Tafadzwa to unite.
The air in the executive lounge, usually a sanctuary of hushed tones and expensive leather, crackled with an unfamiliar tension. Mr. Chideme, a man whose smile never quite reached his eyes, leaned back in his plush armchair, a smug satisfaction radiating from him like heat from a furnace. His gaze, sharp and predatory, flickered between Tafadzwa and myself, a silent predator observing its prey. I felt a prickle of unease, a familiar echo of the gut feeling that had warned me about him from the start.
“Remarkable performance, Tafadzwa,” Chideme purred, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. “Truly, you’ve built an empire. One would almost feel… threatened by such dominance.”
Tafadzwa, ever the stoic, merely inclined his head, his jaw set. “Competition is healthy, Chideme. It keeps us sharp.”
