Shadowfang makes his move, a direct confrontation. He sees Luna's pack as weak and ripe for the taking. Luna stands her ground, fear warring with a fierce protectiveness for her family.
The wind, a relentless sculptor, carved new shapes into the drifts of snow that choked the forest. Each gust carried a biting chill, a promise of deeper hardship. Luna huddled closer to Rowan, the elder’s warmth a small comfort against the vast, frozen world. Her pack, once a vibrant tapestry of movement and sound, was now a muted collection of shivering forms, their usual boisterous energy leached away by hunger and the gnawing cold. Their den, usually alive with the rustle of fur and the soft murmur of contented sighs, was now a place of hushed anxieties and hollow bellies.
Rowan’s gaze, usually a steady beacon of reassurance, was clouded with a weariness that mirrored the season. He had seen many winters, but this one felt different, more savage. The deer, their usual prey, had vanished, driven deeper into the mountains by the relentless snow, and the rabbits, once plentiful, were now scarce, their tracks few and far between in the deepening white. Desperation was a scent that clung to the air, mingling with the metallic tang of frost.
It was in this fragile state that the threat arrived. Not with the subtle rustle of leaves or the distant call of a bird, but with a guttural, menacing growl that sliced through the biting wind like a shard of ice. Shadowfang. The name itself was a rasping whisper of fear among the pack. He was the leader of the Moonscar pack, a group known for their brutal efficiency and their insatiable greed. And he had come to claim what he believed was rightfully his.
