Chapter 13
Luna's Inner Strength
Facing Shadowfang directly, Luna doesn't resort to brute force. She uses her knowledge of the terrain and her pack's combined strengths to outmaneuver him, showing a different kind of power.
The wind, a cruel sculptor, had whittled the world down to bone and ice. Each gust carried the sting of winter’s true intent, a promise of hardship etched into the very air. Luna shivered, not just from the cold that seeped through her fur, but from a deeper chill that settled in her belly. Shadowfang and his pack stood before them, a jagged line of shadows against the stark white of the snow-laden pines. Their eyes, like chips of obsidian, glinted with a hunger that mirrored the gnawing emptiness in her own pack’s den.
Elder Rowan stood at the front, his grey muzzle frosted, his stance resolute. Yet, Luna could feel the weariness radiating from him, a quiet plea for a strength that was rapidly dwindling. The scent of desperation, thin and acrid, wafted from Shadowfang’s ranks. He was bold, too bold, his arrogance a shield against the fear that must surely be clawing at his own pack’s hearts.
“This territory is ours,” Shadowfang’s voice rasped, a sound like dry leaves skittering across frozen ground. “And we will take what we need.”
