The grand library of Blackwood Manor was a sanctuary of hushed tones and the scent of aged paper, a stark contrast to the growing unease that clung to Elara like a damp shroud. She’d spent hours there, ostensibly poring over ancient tomes, but her true quarry was far more elusive: the truth. It was the part of the manor that remained largely off-limits, a place where the staff moved with a hushed reverence, and where Seraphina’s gaze could turn glacial if anyone dared to inquire. Elara had caught glimpses of it during her initial tour – a corridor draped in heavy velvet, doors that seemed to swallow light. It was a place that radiated an aura of forgotten secrets.
