The Avocado's Core

The air in the small, hidden grove felt thick with an unspoken question. Elara knelt beside a gnarled avocado tree, its leaves tinged with the same sickly yellow that had plagued so many others. This tree, however, was different. A single, perfectly formed avocado hung from a low branch, a vibrant green jewel against the encroaching decay. It pulsed with a faint, internal light, a promise of something more.

Silas stood a respectful distance away, his shadow long in the dappled sunlight. “You feel it, don’t you?” he murmured, his voice a low rumble. “The resonance. This one… it is untouched.”

Elara reached out a tentative finger, tracing the smooth, cool skin of the fruit. It hummed against her touch, a gentle vibration that seemed to echo the beat of her own heart. “It’s… alive,” she whispered, awe colouring her tone. “Truly alive. The blight hasn’t reached its core.”
