The air in Oakhaven, usually thick with the comforting scent of honeysuckle and freshly baked bread, now carried a metallic tang, a whisper of something alien and dangerous. Captain Anya Sharma, her uniform crisp despite the growing unease in town, stood on the porch of the old bakery, her gaze sweeping the quiet street. It was too quiet. The usual afternoon chatter of neighbors, the distant laughter of children, had been swallowed by an oppressive silence.

“You’re sure about this, Sir Wallace?” she asked, her voice low, laced with a skepticism she couldn’t quite shake. The man beside her, Sir Wallace T. Knight, looked less like a cosmic warrior and more like a man who’d just returned from a long fishing trip. His shoulders, broad and strong, were draped in simple, earth-toned clothes, a stark contrast to the shimmering armor he was rumored to have once worn. His eyes, however, held a depth that spoke of galaxies and battles far beyond Oakhaven’s quaint borders.

Wallace offered a gentle smile, the kind that could soothe a frightened child. “As sure as I am that Mrs. Gable’s apple pies are the finest in the sector, Captain. The energy signatures… they’re not natural. And they’re converging right here.” He gestured vaguely towards the town square, a place usually reserved for farmers’ markets and summer festivals.
